League Rules

Handicap League Organization and Rules

  1. The league season will run for 16 weeks and will be divided into two halves with the winners of each half earning a berth on the league championship shoot-off, held in August of each year.
  2. If the same team wins both eight round half’s, they will be league champion and will represent the league in the club Championship shoot-offs.
  3. A team shall consist of at least five (5) and not more than ten (10) shooters. Each shooter is required to be member of the Eau Claire Rod & Gun Club.
  4. There will be no blind scores for teams with less than five (5) scores.
  5. The total of the five (5) highest scores shot by each team will be used to determine each team’s average. Any night a team has less than five (5) scores shot for the team’s total, that night’s score will be disregarded when calculating weekly handicap and season averages.
  6. Each team will have one half hour to shoot their competitive rounds for the week.
  7. The team captain or a team member shall submit the team score sheet and shooting fees to scorer before shooting their scheduled shooting round. Score sheet and fees will remain with the scorer to be picked up by the club.
  8. Team captains will be responsible for their individual team members conduct, trapshooting rules and safety regulation will be observed at all times.
  9. After the seventh week of the league shooting, a team will not be allowed to advance from the maximum yard line reached, even though the team average should decline during the remainder of the league season.
  10. All league targets will be thrown utilizing the ATA rules for determining target settings.
  11. After the league season starts and through the first twelve weeks, a team in any class except AA&A must obtain permission from the league committee before altering the team roster. Class AA & A teams may alter their team roster by first notifying the league secretary. No team roster changes in any of the league classes will be allowed after the twelfth week of the season.
  12. During the league season and for any shoot-offs, should any competing teams end up with a tie score, the sixth highest score will be used to determine a winner and if necessary, the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th. After all scores have been used, the number of 25s, 24s, etc will be used.
  13. If an individual is a member of two or more teams in the same league, they must shoot a score for each team when the teams are scheduled to compete against each other.
  14. When shooting an open round with your team, just write the word “open” instead of your name. Any time you shoot on both squads on a team score sheet and neither score is marked “open” or “ahead”. The first score shot will always be the one used for the team score.
  15. If league shooting should be canceled due to inclement weather, the make up date will be the following Thursday. Make up score may also be shot on the following Tuesday or Wednesday nights. Make up scores, due to a cancellation, may be shot any time from opening of the trap range until closing. The time that you were to shoot on the date of the canceled shoot is not in effect for these make ups.
  16. High gun awards will be based on the total targets broken. If an individual misses a night of shooting without having a shoot ahead or bank score, they may make up one missed score for the season for their personal average. Any make up scores must conform to the time periods and team handicap yards for the date missed. Any ties for the five club high gun awards will require a 25 target shoot off. (Club high gun, Vet, Lady, Youth, 16 Yard high gun.)
  17. Should any problem arise concerning league trapshooting not spelled out in these rules, a decision will be made by a league committee consisting of the trap chairman and all league secretaries.
  18. Bad checks received by the club cost the signer an additional $20.00. If the Cub receives two bad checks from the same person, no additional checks will be accepted as payment from that individual.
  19. Teams will be placed in league classes based upon their pervious year’s team average. Changes in the team roster will be considered when determining the class. New teams will be placed in a league class using information provided by the team captain and any known ability the trap committee may have of the team members abilities.
  20. Teams that do not have complete team rosters by April 1st, may be placed in a higher class of league than they would have been if they would have had a ten member roster provided before the league classes were set up.
  21. All teams registered by the league organizational meeting will be granted their preference of nights to shoot, provided the trap range is not filled to capacity with teams from previous year and if their team roster is filled. New teams with complete rosters will be granted preference over previous year’s teams that had less than 80% of possible scores posted.
  22. Teams that turn in rosters after the league organizational meeting may not be granted the night of preference. Late entry teams will be placed on the night which best balances the leagues.
  23. The league organizational meeting, which is normally held the first week in March, is the dead line for last year’s teams to retain their preference status.
  24. The league secretary is responsible for handicapping teams in their respective league.
    1. If two or more teams are tied at the end of the first half in their league, the teams will shoot off on Thursday night of week eight to determine first half winner. The winner of the first half in each league will receive an extra one (1) yard handicap for the second half.
    2. All teams winning a league that received the one yard handicap will lose it for the league championship shoot off. There will be a shoot off for league teams tied in the second half. If they won the first half they will retain the one yard handicap for this shoot off.
  25. Each league class had a minimum handicap yardage (18-23 yards) regardless of the team average.
    1. Class AA-A 22 yards
    2. Class B-C-D 21 yards
    3. Class E-F-G 20 yards
    4. Class H-I 18 yards
  26. A team’s handicap is based on the team average, which is calculated using the 5 highest individual scores each night.
  27. The first 3 weeks of the season, teams in the same class will shoot from the same yard line. The yard line teams start shooting on is determined by the class of league the team is in. After the 3rd week of shooting, the team’s average, class and league standing will be used to determine the handicap each week.
  28. Individuals may shoot ahead as often as they desire. If the team is scheduled to shoot at 8:30 or 9:00pm, shoot aheads for these times must be shot at 8:30pm or later in order to count for team score. If for any reason the league night is canceled or any part of it, the 8:30 or 9:00pm rule is not in effect and that round can be made up at any time.
  29. When your team is scheduled to shoot at 8:00pm, you may shoot ahead on the second squad for either the 8:30 or 9:00pm time periods of a future date.
  30. Shoot ahead scores for the 6:00pm through 8:00pm time periods may be shot at any time.
  31. All shoot ahead scores must be marked on the score sheet along with the date, team name that the score is to count for and yard line you are to shoot from.
  32. If an individual shoots an “ahead” score from a closer yard line than that assigned for the team on the date for which the “ahead” score is to be counted, “one target” will be deducted from the score for each yard the “ahead” score was shot from.
  33. Individuals are encouraged to shoot a “bank” score that may be used any time during the trap season. Dates that “bank” scores may be shot will be posted and yardage requirements will be available from the trap committee or cashier. Only (1) bank score per shooter per team is allowed. Minimum “bank” score handicaps are determined by class the team is in. Handicap yard by league and class will be posted and available at the cashier’s counter. No bank score will be allowed after the start of the handicap league season.
  34. The league secretary will automatically use a bank score if the shooter misses a night of shooting and does not have a shoot ahead score.
  35. All championship shoot offs will be fifty (50) targets, with competing teams shooting twenty five (25) targets on each of two traps.
  36. No shoot ahead scores will be permitted for the championship shoot offs.
  37. If, for any reason, the team(s) cannot attend on the championship shoot off day, the second place team(s) will be asked to fill their place. Teams are encouraged to advise the league secretary of your team’s intentions in time for the notification of the 2nd place team. This same rule can be used if your team can only field less than 5 shooters for the shoot offs.
  38. If an individual is a member of competing teams, they must shoot scores for each team.
  39. In the 50 target championship shoot offs, if the competing teams are ties, the 6th score from each 25 target round will be used to break the tie and, if necessary the 7th, etc.
  40. The club championship shoot offs are usually held the last Saturday in August. If total shoot off cancellation due to inclement weather occurs, the event will be held on the next day (Sunday). If only a portion of the shoot off are cancelled, the trap committee and affected team captains will decide when the shoot offs will occur.
